Lo How A Rose E’re Blooming

A year ago, amid the chaos of apartment life, in small increments of time during toddler’s naps, with towels stuffed under the door, and mics duct-taped to music stands, I managed to squeeze in recording a simple arrangement of this beautiful advent hymn. You can read a bit more in the original post, but I wanted to share this song again as we enter the Christmas season and celebrate our Savior’s birth!

Lyrics:

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung! Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung. It came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter, When half spent was the night.

Isaiah ’twas foretold it, the Rose I have in mind; With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind. To show God’s love aright, she bore to men a Savior, When half spent was the night.

Oh night, Oh night Silent Night

O Savior, Child of Mary, who felt our human woe, O Savior, King of glory, who dost our weakness know; By grace bring us, we pray, into your courts in Heaven, And to the endless day!

Michael Praetorius (1609), Arr. Caitelen Schneeberger (2013).
